Hello!
Last year, I had many questions on how we could do a mission trip well. I wanted to know if we were really going to make an impact, or if we were going to be like "those" short term missionaries. On top of that, I didn't want to feel pressured to return to Sri Lanka this year simply to validate the impact of the trip, or to use a return visit as proof that I was somehow different from the short term missionaries I'd been critiquing. To be honest, there is probably a part of that, since I do think it takes consistency to make an impact. Mostly, though, I felt led to return due to the blessings and learnings that God gave me during and after the trip. And so this summer, from July 29-August 6, I will be going again with a new team from Jubilee Church to Sri Lanka. This time to a new city called Kandy.
When people asked me what I learnt from the Sri Lanka Mission Trip last year, I said “a reminder of what true community in Christ was”. I felt challenged to care more for others in my community in Korea. God teaches us lessons in funny ways. He decided that I didn’t fully learn the lesson in Sri Lanka. Something happened to me as soon as I got back to Korea and it was the Sri Lanka Mission team who showed me what true community was. They constantly checked on me and helped me in ways beyond my expectations. God showed me His love through the team. This year’s theme is: Jesus Loves Me, and at this point in my life, I have healed so much because Jesus loves me and my community. I want to ask that you partner with me in prayer and financial support as I go back to Sri Lanka this summer.
We will be serving alongside the Ceylonese Evangelistic Association (CEA), encouraging local churches, pastors, and communities through ministry, outreach, and relationship-building. Some of the things we will do will be similar to what we did last year, but some things will be different. Things will be different not because of our planning, but because God can use us in ways that is beyond our imagination.
