Change The World, One Soap At A Time

Greetings in Christ.

It is a great honor and privilege for me to join the Indonesia Missions Team 2013.

This year, our team will be stationed in Sendayan for five days, mainly conducting following projects.

  1. 1. Building Community Center
  2. 2. Hosting Summer Bible School for children
  3. 3. Training mothers in soap production and personal hygiene for children
  4. 4. Training local church leader in ministry

Karen Li and Stephanie Heinlein from our team and myself are in charge of “Soap Production Training for Mothers” and “Personal Hygiene Class for Children”.

 A. Soap Production Training for Mothers

Currently, there are 90 women, mostly mothers in Sendayan who want to learn how to make soap.  With the general supervision under Food for the Hungry, what we are aiming is to help the community to start their own business by giving them the  proper training in soap production.  With the proper trainings given, the Sendayan community will be able to obtain all the natural ingredients locally, since the most of the ingredients for soap making are in fact produced in Indonesia.  Our team will prepare and purchase all the necessary equipment for soap manufacturing and donate them to the community.

 B. Personal Hygiene Class for Children

Since June of 2013, We (Pastor Sangmin Lee, Lauren Lim and myself) have been giving soap making classes across the universe in numerous institutions and events.  In each class, we taught people to make soap not only for themselves, but also for donations.  With the great supports from Aki Factory, Shinchon Montessori Kindergarden and English Unification Camp 2013, we raise more than 500 bars of soap donated for the children in Sendayan.  We will give out the soaps to local children through Summer Bible School which our team will be hosting.  Not only that, our team will provide a proper education in personal hygiene so that the kids would learn how to wash and stay clean.

With above mentioned plans for this year’s missions, I cordially request your support and prayers for the following topics.

A.  Financial & material needs in acquiring neccesary ingredients for Soap Production Training shall be fiilled.  ALL Ingredients will be obtained from Indonesia by Food for the Hungry with us covering the expanses.  Please pray that they will find the right  and sufficient ingredients for the training.

B.  500 bars of soap and hand drawings we received as donations from Aki Factory, Sinchon Kindergarden & EUC 2013 shall be safely delivered from Incheon airport to the city of Sendayan.  Please pray that all the luggages would not get lost during flight, not get damaged and pass customs with ease.  So that all the works and efforts done by hundreds of kids, teenagers & mothers in making those soap will be delivered fully to the children of Sendayan.

C.  Equipment for Soap Production Training which will be donated to mothers in Sendayan shall be safely delivered from Incheon airport to the city of Sendayan.  Please pray that all the luggages would not get lost during flight, not get damaged and pass customs with ease.

D.  Instructors from our team, Karen, Staphanie and myself shall work in harmony, unity and great joy as the seeders of God's ministry.  We shall seek for peace, wisdom and creativity under God's presence so that even in the difficult and different surroundings, we would be able to communicate well with local assistants and mothers.

E.  Both in Soap Production Training and Personal Hygiene Class, the right message and knowledge shall be delivered.  Please pray that we can overcome different barriers in culture, language and etc. by seeking for God's sovereignty.  Holy Spirit, lead us so that we not only communicate in language and actions but in hearts and spirit.

F.  Mothers receiving training get encouraged and strengthen their faith by Holy Spirit, not by potentials in material things.  Please pray that all of us, both instructors and trainees deepen our understanding in God, that he is our only hope, provider and protector in everything.  This might sound too weird, but I believe it is not simply about soap making, it is actually about knowing God through sharing our knowledge and vision.

G.  Anything you can think of or the Spirit is leading you to pray for.

This is the first time in my life going on a Mission Trip.  Writing this letter was not easy and I know it was not easy for you to read the whole thing as well.  If you read the whole letter through this end, I thank you for your attention and care.  Please let me know that you read the whole thing when you see me at the church, because I want to give you a bar of soap that I make as a token of gratitute.   This means if I see you at the church and you don't say 'I read your support letter, the whole thing.' I will assume that you are not my friend.  No, just kidding.

Praise the Lord.

Sincerely,

MJ
