“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in?

And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?

And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written,

‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’”

-Romans 10:14-15

Dear Brothers and Sisters, the opportunity I had been waiting for has finally come. I will be going to Sumatra Indonesia this summer to deliver Good News with Food for the Hungry (Aug 25 - Sept 1).

Having lived in Jakarta for 5 years, going back to the country where I spent my formative years brings back many memories and excitement.

While I lived in Jakarta, the first two years were spent in affluence and comfort. The remaining three years however, our family experienced a great change that challenged each of us in a deep way. During those three years, my sister and I stayed home because our parents could not afford our tuition. We moved houses several times while the electricity and water being cut off became a normal inconvenience.

After 5 years, my family was finally able to move back to Korea, leaving behind many scars and burdens. While living in Korea the hardships we went through were soon forgotten and in a way, it was a blessing to move on, however God had not forgotten my time in Jakarta.

During a high school mission trip to Malaysia, I had the chance to teach children of illegal immigrants in a small school. As I got to know the children, I came to see many of them were in a similar situation as I was in Jakarta—the only difference was my circumstances were much better than theirs. While reflecting, I realized the painful memories I had were slowly forming into convictions. My hardships were not to be forgotten, but to be used by the gentle hands of God.

As some of you may know, I am planning to enlist in the Korean military toward the end of this year. This inevitable chapter in my life is a reluctant one for me to embark on, yet I have decided to move as God leads, and to stop as God calls. Before I enlist, I would love to have the opportunity to bless and be blessed by the people I love… to let my convictions manifest into actions.

And so I invite you to join with me on this humble journey of revisiting my home, and encountering a beautiful nation that desperately needs the love of Christ—to let your convictions also take action.

Prayer Topics

  1. Simply to love God (Heart, Soul, Strength and Mind). So my ministry is from overflow.
  2. To love the people of Indonesia.
  3. To be obedient to God and my leaders—Pastor Dave of Jubilee Church will be leading this trip.
  4. For God to provide (It’s the only way!)
