Hello everyone :)
As to how and why I joined the Heartland Missions, there's nothing much to say or explain other than God simply asking me, "why not?" so here I am. It is my first missions trip and I am thankful that He has allowed me to join this team to be a part of His work. It was a last minute decision so I feel a bit unprepared and unequipped in so many ways but I trust in the Lord that He will take care of everything.
From August 6th – 13th. I will join a team from Jubilee Church and minister to the youth in a city called Namyangju for the Heartland 2011 mission trip. Namyangju is a rural city about 40 minutes outside of Seoul. The children in this town are less privileged and come from broken families who cannot afford afterschool academies for their kids. Our mission team will be teaching English and ministering to 250 elementary school kids from grades 1 – 6 through a VBS (Vacation Bible School) English Camp at Joo-Pyung-Kang church. We will also have a youth program for the local teenagers who will be serving with us as Teacher’s assistants at VBS.
I've always thought of missions as something we do for God to simply make disciples of all nations - quite a one-dimensional view I had indeed. As I was going through the missions training session, He revealed to me that although it is a part of our calling, it isn't the ultimate purpose of why missions exist. John Piper's words made it very clear by saying, "Missions exist because worship doesn't." Above all the serving, loving, and caring we are able to do through Christ our Savior, I pray and ask you to pray with us so that we are able to praise and worship Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength with the children of Namyangju.
