This summer (August 24-30), I am excited to join Jubilee Church a second time on missions to Indonesia.
When I visited in 2012 with Jubilee, it was unusual returning to a place I consider 'home' with a missional mindset. During the trip, I satisfied my longing for fried rice and noodles, but I also noticed a lingering disappointment of unfulfilled expectations.
For the first time, entering many houses I would not have entered otherwise, I met the ordinary people I grew up ignoring—the people beyond the high-walled complexes who were never the subject of my concern. Truly seeing for the first time the people I claimed to love was an immense blessing: God knew each of them as He knew me. It presented me a time of repentance, but in my over-zealous passion, I found myself asking God to work in prompt and tangible ways—however, God did not work according to my shortsightedness. I was initially discouraged, but soon realized God's work is not always immediate and He asks his servants to have patience and long-suffering in doing His work.
This summer, I wish to return to eat more fried rice and fried noodles, but more importantly, to be a humble servant for our Father. When literally translated, the Indonesian phrase for 'Thank you' (terima kasih) means to 'give love'. And how appropriate that phrase is to the heart of us on missions. This summer, I wish to humbly give as I have been given, and love as I have been loved.
To share this Gospel, our team will be joining Food for the Hungry Indonesia to participate in various projects such as pastoral training, construction, soap making, and VBS. To make this trip possible, each member must raise $1,500/1,500,000KRW. This will cover the airfare, housing, food, transportation, and supplies. While I'm responsible for half of this amount, I need your support to raise the remainder.
