Today, one of the cruelest forms of slavery in the Philippines is the crime of Online Sexual Exploitation of Children (OSEC).
It is estimated that about 750,000 child sex predators online
(the UN and FBI estimates, 2011) are ready to send payments to
Filipino adults in exchange for live streams of sexual abuse to
children.
As a result, nearly half a million Filipino children are
trafficked to produce sexual exploitation material. In contrast,
almost a quarter of a million adult Filipinos have
trafficked those children.
IJM has worked alongside Philippine authorities since 2000 to
track down the predators and traffickers, rescue victims, and
ensure the criminals are held accountable for their crimes,
through working closely with local law enforcement, public
prosecutors, and judges.
They have advocated for new laws against OSEC in the Philippines.
Also, to ensure the voices of the survivors, IJM has launched the
Philippine Survivor Network, and we work to equip survivors to
advocate for Filipino children against OSEC.
Proceeds from the fundraiser project will be used in the following way:
