Did you know there are over 33,000 North Koreans living in South Korea? After risking their lives to escape NK to China, they once again embark on a treacherous 5,000-mile journey while evading Chinese authorities to reach neighboring Southeast Asian countries.
Once they finally reach South Korea, a different set of challenges await them. For many North Koreans, English ranks among the most difficult challenges in assimilating into the highly competitive South Korean society.
ELM (English Leadership Ministry) provides 1:1 English tutoring classes, leadership training, and mentoring opportunities to North Korean university students living in Seoul. Their main goal is to empower and cultivate global North Korean leaders through education and strategic partnerships with local and international organizations.
“ELM” tree is native to the Northern part of the Korean Peninsula and is one of the strongest trees. Its bark is used for many tools. They uproot and grow well in multiple types of soil as long as they are given the proper amounts of water, sunlight, and shade. In a similar way, people, when given the right tools, can be adaptable and grow well in a variety of different contexts.
Please join us in raising funds for scholarships that they provide for the students they are tutoring and mentoring.
