There are about 20 slums in Seoul and the biggest one is located across from Seoul station. It's hidden behind tall buildings so it’s not visible but there are about 800 people living in that area, called Jjokbang (쪽방). It means a room smaller than two square meters and it’s too small for an adult person to lie down with their legs stretched.
Jjokbang is a subdivided housing that doesn’t require deposit to stay in. Monthly rent ranges from 150,000 won to 250,000 won. Residents in a jjokbang share communal toilet and kitchen.
There are some children of low income families living there as well and we have an opportunity to bless these kids on Children's day. When we asked them where they want to go, they said they want to go to an aquarium. We have a volunteer team already formed and they are taking these kids to Coex. YOU can also participate in this awesome outing by sponsoring their tickets, lunches and a little gift. We are raising 2,000,000 won for this event. Please visit Jubilink for more info and give!
