Two years ago I went to Cambodia with a team from Jubilee Church. During my time there I experienced many things, but the greatest thing I witnessed was the hope and love that the children at the Center of Peace (COP) orphanage had and how they were being equipped to be a salt and light in this world. I had the privilege of serving them in their home and serving along side them as we ministered in the countryside. This summer I will be returning to Cambodia once again with another team from Jubilee for one week (July 26 - August 1). We will continue to work with the COP and do outreaches in the countryside.
In the past century Cambodia has experienced much darkness. After the nation was torn apart by a senseless war, a generation of children was left orphaned. As those children grew up and had children of their own, they passed on the spirit of poverty. Over the past several years, God has been leading me to share in his heart for justice. Jesus claimed that "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" (Matt. 5:3). Throughout the gospels, he chooses to identify with the "least of these" and honors those who honor them (Matt. 25:34-45). But just as "God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong" (1 Cor. 1:27), he has chosen the children of Cambodia to make known the love and power of Jesus.
