Finishing up my third semester at Torch Trinity Graduate School of Theology, I was reminded of a very simple and beautiful thing when my professor this year asked, “What two things are eternal, thus worth living for?” The answer to that question took me back a few years earlier to my time spent in China. The answer was plain and simple: God and his people. In China, I had experienced a joy like never before when I was given the chance to live for both.
The pursuit of answering that question has called me back to Korea, that I may complete my Masters of Divinity. In my pursuit of this knowledge, I needed to stop and remember that loving God also equates to loving his people.
This year has been an amazing year, filled with new opportunities to serve and love people. This summer, I have the privilege of joining a team from Jubilee church to serve a small village in Indonesia. We have five specific areas in which we plan to serve:
- Building a community center – This center will serve as a gathering place for locals in the village to promote unity, love and service.
- Summer vacation bible school camp with the local children – Promoting joy, love, and laughter.
- Soap making class –The village we will be serving is an impoverished area, lacking basic levels of sanitation and hygiene. Teaching the locals how to make soap will serve two purposes: teaching the importance of washing hands and equipping mothers with an economically feasible method in producing income.
- Training local pastors and leaders – Teaching basic leadership skills and foundational knowledge of the bible.
- Worship night – We are expecting to have over 900 locals attend a worship service that will be run by the Jubilee team.
I am asking you to partner with me primarily in prayer. Prayer is vital in supporting us as we step into participating in the work of building God’s kingdom. Please partner with us in prayer for:
- God’s glory – to remember that this is all for his glory and worship. He is paramount.
- Gospel – to pray that the Gospel would be preached over and over to us as a team and that it would also be preached to the people we encounter.
- Team – to pray for unity, humility, and joy as we serve.
- People – to pray for the land of Indonesia, it’s leaders, and inhabitants.
