Hello, everyone!
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I am very happy to let you all know that this summer I will participating in a different kind of camp, one that I have never done before! It is called English Unification Camp, and it is a program that works to bring young South Korean and North Korean students together for 1 week to get to know and learn more about one another.
Tens of thousands of North Korean defectors/refugees have come to find a home here in South Korea, but it can still be difficult for them to adjust to such a vastly different way of life. This can be especially difficult for the young children coming to South Korea who have never known anything about the outside world. This camp works to help in some of the adjustments, both for newer and more settled students, and to help them create friendships and relationships with new people.
Although I am not 100% sure of my camp position yet (whether it be a small group leader or activity leader), I am overjoyed to be a part of this unifying experience and to watch as the campers bond with one another and create lasting relationships. It has been amazing to witness the progress that has been taking place between the two Koreas and I pray for this camp, the staff, and the students to open their hearts to one another and be a part of continuing that process.
As part of a missions trip, the staff has been asked to raise $300 each for travel, housing, and food expenses. If the Lord has opened your heart to donate to part of this fundraising, that's great! But even if that's not the case, prayers are what I will appreciate the most! Please pray for the staff and that we will prepare our hearts to welcome and love these children for a week of fun, friends, and finding God. Please pray for the students and that they will be open to one another, taking time to understand and get to know each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. And pray for the camp and those in charge, that things would run smoothly and that God would give them the wisdom in leading such an important piece of hope and history.
