Dear Family and Friends,
This year has been flying by! I don’t know if you feel the same way, but I was shocked when I realized the Fourh of July –a landmark holiday for me every summer—is only a few days away. What a year it has already been for me! God has been challenging me in my faith and with what it means to really follow Him. I pray I am learning all He has for me.
This summer, I have the opportunity to go on a missions trip with a team from Jubilee Church to work at ERC—English Revival Camp. We will be working with a couple of other teams to minister to South Korean and North Korean (refugee) students for five days—July 25-July 29. While a portion of our goal is to help the students improve their English, the main reasons we are going include teaching them about God, showing them Christ’s love, helping them see the identity they have in Christ, and encouraging reconciliation and unification among them.
Our theme for this camp is “Search me, Test me, Lead me”, based on Psalm 139:23-24: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Our job, as the Jubilee portion of the team, is to teach the students through Bible studies and skits based on this Scripture.
There are a couple of ways you can help us as we prepare to go:
The first is the most important: please pray!
*Pray for the unity of our team from Jubilee and for all of us together at the camp as a whole. Many of us from the different teams don’t know each other and we need to be of one heart and mind in this together. And pray that we do all of this with joy and a heart to serve.
- *Pray for the students: God is preparing some of these students even now to come to know Him and to grow and learn. Pray that their hearts will be open to the Truth. And pray that they can be unified and fellowship together!
- *Pray for protection for each staff member, volunteer and student. The enemy is not happy we are coming to together for the purpose of sharing Christ and growing in Him. But Jesus is powerful!
- *Pray for me personally that my heart will be prepared and joyful to teach and share my life with the students. Part of going on this trip is just a step of obedience. But I want to be excited to share with the students too!
The other way you can help is by giving. If you feel led by God to support us financially, you can do so here on Jubilink. The cost of the camp for each participant—including students—is 400,000 won. Each of us on the Jubilee team is raising half of the cost. Whatever money is “extra” from each participant’s(not only from Jubilee) fee is going to go towards helping pay the North Korean students’ camp costs.
Thank you for taking the time to read this! May God bless you as you continue to grow in Him!
By His Grace,
Amanda Sherrin
