Ryan has been accepted into the Intercultural Studies Ph.D. program at Biola University. He will be taking classes part time remotely, with summer intensives on site at Biola. While this is a great opportunity for Ryan and for Footstool, it is expensive. Biola offers a matching scholarship for contributions made by a church. Jubilee will designate gifts from this item towards the matching scholarship; in essence doubling the gift.

Working full-time!

November 2, 2011

Hi Everyone!

It’s been a while since we’ve seen you last, and we have been busy here. In October we finished our second session of language school (PTL!), and began the transition to working full time. Since then, we have been non-stop busy!

Carolyn is working on various tasks for Food for the Hungry’s internal communications, both for the Phoenix office and for our base here Medan. She is doing a lot of work reporting and organizing the internal side of things. She will also be working in external communications writing blogs, setting up Facebook and Twitter for our work here.

Ryan is going to be incredibly busy in the coming weeks as he is on our Program Design Team. The team is designing a savings and learning group model (in which women from the community gather together and save small amounts of money each week), with which they can coordinate all other projects. For example, when the women gather to save we can offer training on hygiene, Bible studies/discipleship, agricultural training, and education training. In this way we are able to impact the community on a spiritual, economic, physical, and social level simultaneously. Most importantly, it is not 'doing for' the communities, but walking with them. Ryan has lots of charts and designs to explain it, so if you are interested in the technical details, please email and he would be happy to explain it to you!

We are also happy to say that we’re coming to Seoul in March! We bought our tickets and will be visiting March 24-31. We’re already looking forward to fellowshipping and worshiping with you.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support. We couldn’t be serving here without all of you lifting us up! If you are not yet on our email list and want to subscribe to our monthly updates, please send us an email at rklejmentlavin@fh.org.

Many Blessings,

Ryan and Carolyn
